Day 2 Bangkok – Khao Kho

Breakfast at Hotel

Early Morning Transfer to Khao Kho Khao Kho: Khao Kho includes various small and large mountains of the Phetchabun range in Khao Kho district. The reason it is called “Khao Kho” is because there are a lot of “Ton Kho” – Mountain Serdang (Livistona speciosa). Due to the chilly temperature throughout the year, and its coolness in the winter with beautiful scenery, it is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Phetchabun.

Khao Kho comprises complex mountain ranges. Its summit is 1,174 metres above sea level. Khao Ya is 1,290 metres, while Khao Yai is 865 metres. Moreover, there is Khao Takhian Ngo, Khao Hin Tang Bat, Khao Huai Sai and Khao Um Phae. The forests in this area are deciduous dipterocarp forest, pine forest and evergreen forest. The interesting point is the plants in the Family Palmae which seem like the Asian Palmyra Palm, but they bear fruits in bunches similar to betel nuts. Although, at present a large area of forests has already been cut down, some are still to be seen.

Visit Pa Son Kyaw Temple Visit one of Thailand’s most striking temples at Wat Pha Sorn Kaew, a colorful structure built on a mountain peak. The temple features upwards of 5 million mosaic tiles and pottery items on the main pagoda and surrounding buildings. Next to the pagoda, a platform holds five images of Buddha

The area is also culturally significant: it served a catchment area for rainwater used in a sacred ceremony during His Majesty the King’s auspicious 72nd birthday anniversary. From December to January, during the cool season, the hills are covered in cherry blossoms, making it the perfect time to visit. During the rainy season, mists engulf the hills both day and night, earning it the moniker of “the Misty Town”. A hiking event (“Climb up to ThapBoek, Experience the Coolness and Watch the Stars on the Ground”) is held to take advantage of the beautiful nighttime scenery, where at the end of the hike, participants can admire Lomsak and Lomkao towns’ twinkling lights below.
